ECHOMUSE

ECHOMUSE is a digital art platform centered on sound, text, and space.

How is art perceived in the contemporary world?

ECHOMUSE hopes to reopen a path to deeper perception through art.
Let art once again become an experience that can be listened to, understood, and repeatedly approached.

We live in an era filled with visual noise, fragmented information, and sensory fatigue.
Art is becoming increasingly "fast-food-like": glance at it, move on to the next one.

ECHOMUSE stands on the edge of this era, striving to bring reflection and transformation to the contemporary art experience through the fusion of sound, text, and space.

The significance of art has gone beyond the presentation of beauty; it is a continuous challenge to and reshaping of "perception" and "mode of expression."

Redefining the way we see art

We live in a visually dominant world, where vision occupies an irreplaceable position in art, culture, and even social activities. However, this visual hegemony, to some extent, limits the depth of our perception. Works of art are often reduced to a "quick glance," failing to guide viewers into deeper emotional resonance and inner experience. ECHOMUSE attempts to liberate art from a singular visual display, opening up multi-dimensional perception.

Online Gallery

A city, a school, an art museum, or a temporary exhibition space. This kind of design, which uses "location" as a clue, is to allow art to penetrate into the specific place where it occurs, so that it is not just abstract and suspended content.

We deliberately reject the logic of "as many as possible" works, because in art, quantity often weakens the possibility of relationships. High-resolution images are preserved to make viewing a delicate and slow act; while the intervention of sound and text makes viewing no longer the only legitimate way to enter.

Sound as the first entry point

In ECHOMUSE, each artwork is accompanied by audio narration recorded by curators, the artists themselves, or art-loving students. How they understand the work, their hesitations, choices, and pauses during creation, and the emotions and motivations that may not be directly presented on screen, constitute the second layer of the work's structure. Viewers can listen to the audio alone or access the transcript when needed, ensuring a one-to-one relationship between reading and viewing.

Art Community

As a growing art community, users can register personal accounts or join as art exhibitions, schools, or institutions to share art exhibitions and cultural spaces in their vicinity, and upload works they believe deserve to be seen by a wider audience. We encourage users to participate in recording audio narrations, allowing more diverse voices to enter the art narrative.

ArtGPT

ECHOMUSE's built-in ArtGPT is a continuous, conversational interface. It can answer questions about art history, style, and background, and can also provide clues and connections when users are confused. However, its role is not to replace human understanding, but rather to lower the psychological barrier to entering the art context.

From online to offline

ECHOMUSE's concept extends beyond the online realm. In our offline curatorial work, we utilize headphones, audio installations, and spatial pathway design to ensure that visuals are not the sole dominant element, allowing viewers to establish a longer-lasting relationship with the artworks.

Towards Hardware

In the future, ECHOMUSE will also explore transforming these sound works into physical devices. Through forms similar to radios or smart interactive devices, art will no longer rely on screens, but will be listened to and accompanied in everyday life.

On Inclusivity

ECHOMUSE does not attempt to "replace" sight with sound, nor does it view accessibility as a compensatory mechanism. For many visually impaired individuals, the goal is not special treatment, but rather more autonomous ways to access cultural spaces. Sound provides a pathway that is neither pressure-driven nor demanding, allowing artistic experiences to unfold at a personal pace. We build upon the principles of accessibility to achieve equality at the perceptual level.

Collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement

ECHOMUSE will continue to collaborate with centers for the blind, schools for the blind, and related organizations to gather real-world feedback and introduce artworks and sound installations into more public spaces. We believe inclusivity is not a one-off solution, but a continuous process of adjustment and iteration.
